Expeditions


Since 1989 until now GSU has contucted many international reserch expeditions in Georgia as well as abroad, namely:

1. Title of the expedition: Speleo-expedition on the Bziphi Massive (Georgia);
Absolute altitude is 2,024m. – Mt. Migaria, Maximum width – 15,000 m, area – 75 sq. km. Limestone output is 1700m.
Dates of the expedition: 8 – 25 August 1991
The goal of the expedition: This expedition was held to investigate environment and caves – Baguminskaia
and Pantukhin on the Bziph Massive.

2. Title of the expedition: Speleo-expedition in France at the Pyrenees;
Dates of the expedition: 14 – 30 August 1992
The goal of the expedition: This expedition was held to make a traverse of the cave Pierre-Saint-Martin (1200  m deep). During the expedition we got acquainted with the new activity of sport
and tourism – canyoning

3. Title of the expedition: Speleo-ecological expedition at Stkaltubo system (Georgia)
Dates of the expedition: 1994
The goal of the expedition: The grant was received the grant in order to make speleology popular among the youth and to highlight ecological problems. Video and photo materials were broadcasted on the first channel
of the Central Television in the program “Irao”.
Participants of the expedition:
- Georgian Speleo Union;
- 15 children from the ages 10-15;

4. Title of the expedition:  Speleo expedition on the Khvamli massive (Georgia);
Absolute altitude is Mountaineering in the Sno valley on the Chaukhi massive (Georgia)
Dates of the expedition: 1 – 15 August 1995
The goal of the expedition: The aim of this expedition was exploration of this massive, some little unexplored caves were found during the exploration. In the Chaukhi massive we made some picks.

5. Title of the expedition: Speleo expedition on the Askhi massive (Georgia);
Absolute altitude is 2520m.
Dates of the expedition: 3 – 18 August 1996
The goal of the expedition: The expedition was organized to explore this massive. There were found some new caves.  After the expedition was made the report with the topography of the explored caves.

6. Title of the expedition:  Spetcial Speleo-Alpine Rescue Courses in Italy, Rovereto
Dates of the expedition: August 1997
-    Members of Georgian Speleologists Union attended mountain-rescue and speleo-rescue courses in Italy and got the certificates.

7. Title of the expedition: Speleo-glaciology expeditionon the glacier Kazbegi Summit (5033m) (Georgia)
Dates of the expedition: 20-28 Sept 1997
The goal of the expedition: expedition was organized to explore fractures of the Gergeti Glacier in the depth.

8. Title of the expedition: Speleo expedition on Migaria Massive (Georgia);
Absolute altitude is 2024m.
Dates of the expedition: 4-18 Aug 1998
The goal of the expedition: expedition was organized to explore vertical caves. After the expedition was made a report with all the information about the expedition and with the topography of the explored caves.

9. Title of the expedition: Speleo expedition in France, special courses of Canyoning in France and Utaly
Dates of the expedition: August 1999
The goal of the expedition: expedition was organized to explore caves in the Alps, on the massive Chartreuse (Dent de Crolles), France; to study the technique of canyoning, to make descends on the canyons Italy and France (region of Chartreuse and Vercors). After the expedition some materials reflecting this experience were broadcasted on the first channel of the Central Television inn the program “Irao”.

10. Title of the expedition:  Speleo expedition in Racha Region (Georgia),
Absolute altitude is 2004m
Dates of the expedition: 1- 15 August 2000
The goal of the expedition: expedition was organized to study tourist potential of the Region Racha, to explore caves caves at the village Shqmeri of Racha region. The results of the expedition as a recommendation were reported to the State Depertment of Tourism and Resorts of Georgia

11. Title of the expedition: The artificial cavities of Georgia “ Ivris Qvabebi”;
Dates of the expedition: 21-29 May 2001
The goal of the expedition: expedition is arraigned to shoot videotape about artificial cavity system discovered in river Iori gorge. This cavity is a unique system, which is not fundamentally explored yet and on the base the film made in this expedition it would be possible to attract funds for conducting scale archeological expedition.

12. Title of the expedition: Speleo-expedition on the Migaria carst Massive;
Absolute altitude is 2,024m. – Mt. Migaria, Maximum width – 15,000 m, area – 75 sq. km. Limestone output is 1700m.
Dates of the expedition: 5 – 25 August 2001
The goal of the expedition: This expedition is continuation of Georgian-French expedition of 1998. It aims to finish exploration of 3 vertical caves on Migaria Massive, to study in the Khobis Stkali gorge unexplored river fork for canyoning activity.

13. Title of the expedition: Speleo expedition to dive siphons at Tskaltubo Cave system;
Dates of the expedition: 30 August – 25 September 2001
The goal of the expedition: expedition plans to dive deep siphons at Tskaltubo Cave system. The expected length of the siphons – 700m, depth – more then 40m.

14. Title of the expedition: Speleo expedition to dive siphoned in Usholta Village (Racha Region);
Dates of the expedition: 30 September – 5 October 2001
The goal of the expedition: expedition aims to make topography of the new cave in Usholta village and dive the siphon.

15. Title of the expedition: Speleo expedition in France
Dates of the expedition: 23 July – 7 Aug 2002
The goal of the expedition: expedition was organized to explore caves at the Pyrenees; to study the technique of canyoning, to make some descends on different canyons.

16. Title of the expedition: Speleo expedition on Migaria Massive (Georgia); “Environmental meeting of youth in Kolhida” (program funded by EU);
Absolute altitude is 2024m.
Dates of the expedition: 21 July – 9 Aug 2004
The goal of the expedition: expedition was organized to explore vertical caves, to study the geology of the massive, to make coloration of the water in the caves, to make speleological stage for the youth from Georgia, Poland and Ukraine.

17. Title of the expedition:  Speleo expedition on the south-west Askhi massive (Georgia); Absolute altitude is 850m.
Dates of the expedition: 16 – 27 August 2011
The goal of the expedition: expedition was organized to explore cavities, to study the hydrogeology of the Turchu valley, to explore Oniore waterfall and cave.
